A self-taught painter with a master’s degree in International Relations, Indu Mishra has steadily carved a distinctive identity in India’s contemporary art landscape. What began as a personal desire to create something enduring has evolved into a celebrated journey marked by exhibitions, international recognition, and social impact.
Her artistic pursuit formally began in 2013, though her inclination toward creativity was evident much earlier. Raised in a supportive family environment where her talents were nurtured with encouragement and trust, she grew up with the confidence to explore her passions freely. While academically accomplished, she found herself increasingly drawn to the canvas, choosing to express her imagination through color and form. By 2010, she had begun revisiting her childhood interest in art more seriously, dedicating most of her leisure time to painting and experimentation.
In April 2013, she hosted her debut solo exhibition, Aarambh, in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand. The show marked a defining moment, transforming her passion into a professional commitment. The following year, she presented Beyond the Boundaries at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi. The exhibition attracted notable visitors, including prominent cricket personalities from India and Australia. The event was widely appreciated, and the venue was subsequently proposed to be named the “Hall of Fame” by the then JSCA President—an acknowledgment of the exhibition’s impact.
Since then, her artistic journey has expanded significantly. She has showcased her work in more than 45 solo and group exhibitions across major Indian cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bhopal, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and Jaipur. Her art has also reached international audiences in Seoul, Malaysia, and London, reflecting her growing global presence. Participation in art festivals and workshops has further enriched her creative perspective and broadened her professional network.
Her clientele spans individual collectors and corporate patrons, including Bollywood personalities, multinational corporations, public and private sector enterprises, banks, armed forces institutions, and government offices. Her paintings adorn offices and private residences alike, a testament to the aesthetic and emotional resonance of her work. Over time, she has earned the appreciation of eminent personalities in the art fraternity—figures she once admired from afar as an aspiring artist.
Beyond personal success, she remains deeply committed to social responsibility. She donates 10 percent of her earnings to support underprivileged communities, using her art as a vehicle for meaningful contribution. This philanthropic dimension adds depth to her professional achievements, reinforcing her belief that creativity should serve a larger purpose.
Her dedication to promoting Madhubani painting at an international level has earned her numerous accolades. Among them are the Agnipath Kala Ratan Award for promoting folk art globally, the Youth Icon Award, the Rani Laxmibai Kala Award, the Indian Icon Award, the Women’s Conclave Award for Best Madhubani Artist, the Aparajita Samman by Prabhat Khabar, and the Best Artist of the Year honor from the World Achievers Award.
