His career portfolio encompasses Critical infrastructure in Railways and Metros, Oil and Gas Pipelines, Chemical plants, Power generation facilities, and Heavy Construction for Cement, Steel, and Polyester film industries. He is currently applying his extensive skill set as a Project and Business Head with KPA Engineering Pvt Ltd. on a significant Piping Project of CP plant in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a consistent ability to deliver projects within stringent parameters of time, budget, and quality. His core competencies lies in meticulous Planning, Strategic Resource Deployment, and rigorous Cost Control, ensuring optimal Men, Machines and Materials utilization with minimizing waste. He possesses deep technical knowledge of international codes and standards, including API, ASME, and ANSI, and is proficient in managing all project phases—from initial Scoping and Estimation through Execution, Commissioning, and Handover.
His recent role in Turkey involves managing the execution of piping and support systems for a major 300 TPD CP3 project, a contract valued at approximately $4.4 million. Here, he is responsible for coordinating all on-site Engineering, ensuring adherence to safety and quality protocols, and leading the construction team to meet production targets.
Prior to this international assignment, Dr. Nagarajan Shunmugam served as Deputy General Manager (Projects) for Kineco Limited in Goa, India. In this capacity, he spearheaded a large-scale project worth over INR 113 crores for Indian Railways, overseeing the supply and installation of composite interior panels and toilet modules for premium trains like Vande Bharat and Tejas. His responsibilities included multi-site coordination across three states, stakeholder liaison, and ensuring timely delivery and customer approval for all deliverables.
His tenure as General Manager (Construction) with RP Infra Projects involved managing critical hydrocarbon sector projects for Vedanta Limited in Barmer, Rajasthan. These projects, with a combined value of INR 33 crores, included the fabrication and erection of structural steel, piping networks, and large storage tanks, all executed under the supervision of international consultants like Worley Parsons.
Dr. Nagarajan Shunmugam earlier career includes senior leadership positions with Indus Projects Ltd. and Savair Energy Ltd., where he managed substantial contracts for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). These projects, valued in the hundreds of crores, involved upgrading nationwide firefighting systems and constructing new plant utilities, demanding expertise in Pipeline networks, Civil Construction, and Heavy Equipment installation.
His international project experience is further highlighted by his work in the Middle East with Uni marine Technical Services and KPA Engineering Pvt Ltd.He played a key role in the construction of a polyester film plant in Bahrain and various industrial projects in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, spanning Cement Production, Gypsum Plants, and Float glass manufacturing. This phase showcased his adaptability in managing diverse scopes, from specialized piping and insulation to large-scale structural steel erection.
Before ascending to general management, he honed his skills in pivotal roles with DG Infrastructure on the Mumbai Metro project, Everest Industries on pre-engineered buildings, and Unity Infraprojects on oil & gas pipelines. His career foundation was built in Engineering and Fabrication Workshops, giving him a granular understanding of Machining, Fabrication, and the Erection of static and rotary equipment.
Dr. Nagarajan Shunmugam holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. He has further augmented his qualifications with an Honorary Doctorate in Project Management and Leadership , Pursuing Advance Programme in Project Management, Pursuing ICDP course ( International Corporate Director’s course ) and Leadership, PMP, PSM, PMM and Entrepreneurship a certificate course . Diplomas in project planning using MS Project and Primavera. His commitment to professional development is reflected in additional training in quality auditing, CNC machining, and process safety management.
