Dr. R. Vijaylakshmi, founder of Glowing Minds Montessori and Resources Centre, is more than an entrepreneur—she is a living embodiment of perseverance, resilience, and vision. Her journey is a story of sacrifice and determination, built on the belief that education is not only about academics but about nurturing the human spirit.
Her path was never defined by privilege or shortcuts. Instead, it was forged through sleepless nights, setbacks, and an unwavering commitment to a dream that many doubted. She began by opening Montessori centers in various locations, some of which did not succeed. Yet, failure never deterred her. For her, it was part of the larger process of growth and learning.
Life tested her deeply when she lost her husband, Mr. Ramnath, who had been her strongest pillar of support. His untimely passing left her with grief, but also with the confidence and courage he had instilled in her. From then on, she continued her journey as a lone warrior, dedicating herself with even greater commitment to her vision of empowering children.
Her academic journey mirrors her pursuit of purpose. She began with a degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Service Management, reflecting her interest in well-being. Later, she pursued postgraduate studies in Human Resource Management and an MBA, which helped her refine her leadership and organizational skills. She worked in banking, explored interior design with her husband, and eventually turned to art and painting as a form of healing and self-expression.
A deeply personal challenge also shaped her journey. Though she longed for a child of her own, life chose another path. Instead of surrendering to despair, she chose to embrace motherhood in a larger sense—becoming a guide, teacher, and nurturer to many children. She opened a small evening coaching center, and through teaching, she found both purpose and healing.
Her academic pursuits continued with a Graduate Diploma in Montessori Education from IMTC and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology, specializing in Child Psychology, from NIMHANS. These milestones, achieved through personal sacrifice, strengthened her resolve to build a meaningful legacy in education.
In 2018, she established Glowing Minds Montessori and Resources Centre in Mylapore. What began as a spark of hope grew into a sanctuary of learning, creativity, and love. For her, the institution is not just a school—it is a living legacy where every child is valued, every curiosity is nurtured, and every smile carries forward her vision.
Her work and resilience have been widely recognized. Among her many honors are the Best Human Award (2023), Pride of Mylapore Award (2024), Aram Award for Best Women Entrepreneur (2025), South Iconic Award for Women (2025), and the Femhonour Award for Most Iconic Founder of a Montessori Preschool (2025). She has also been recognized with the Outstanding Edupreneur Award, Excellent Women Edupreneur Award, Self-Made Woman Title (2025), and the Rashtriya Ashoka Samman (2025) for her exceptional role in education.
Her academic achievements include being conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Education and receiving the Bharat Gaurav Rathna Shri Samman (2025). She was also nominated for the prestigious Indian School Awards in the same year.
